“If it wasn’t for this school and this ministry, I would have been a mother of seven by now, drinking and smoking and living on the streets.”
These are the words of Esther, a young woman whose life was transformed by the school in Twashuka. Growing up in Cheshire, Zambia, Esther faced unimaginable challenges. At just five years old, she lost her mother and was raised by her grandparents in extreme poverty. “We could hardly eat,” Esther recalls. “I went to school without shoes, carrying my books in a plastic bag.”
In her community, many girls fell victim to early pregnancies, child marriages, and dangerous drug addictions to cope with life alone. Esther admits she was tempted to follow the same path. “After finishing high school, I thought, ‘Let me just get married and at least try what others are doing,’” she shared. At 21, she became pregnant, but was abandoned by the man who had promised her a life together.
It was at this point that she just cried out to God for help.
The next week, while walking through the village of Twashuka, Esther heard singing coming from under the mango tree. “I felt God draw me to these beautiful voices singing praises to God,” she said. “they were singing about the greatness of God and they were praying like I’ve never heard before.”
“I felt like God told me, ‘you can trust these people’,” she said. After the song had finished, Esther asked Florence, one of our school teachers, if she could pray with her.
Through the mentorship of teachers like Jennipher & Florence, Esther discovered something she had never known before: hope. “They taught me about Christ, about personal hygiene, and how to live with others. After they shared the gospel of Christ with me, I thought the life I was living wasn’t a good life. I needed to give my life to Christ.”
Today, Esther is a university student pursuing a degree in public administration. She is raising her daughter and determined to create a better future. “My mentors at Reaching the Heart of Zambia encouraged me to go back to school and not to give up hope for my life,” she said.
Esther’s life has been completely changed by Christ through the work of Reaching the Heart of Zambia and because of the faithful support that you offer… but there is still much more work to be done in the lives of all 300 children currently enrolled in our school.
As the year comes to a close, we set a goal to raise $51,000 ($600/child) to help rescue 85 children off the streets this Christmas. Would you prayerfully consider giving a generous gift to Reaching the Heart of Zambia? Your generous gift of $300, $600, $1,200, or even $2,400 will make it possible for us to reach 85 more children just like Esther in the coming year.
Here’s the exciting part: between now and year-end, any gift of $300 or a monthly commitment of $25/month will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $12,000!! So please give generously!
With your support:

We can offer them daily Biblical instruction to give them a strong foundation.
We can teach grades 1-7 for no cost to them daily through our school.
We can offer at least one healthy good hot meal a day during school hours.
We can provide mentorship opportunities after school for anyone in need.
