Imagine waking up at 5am everyday.  Imagine that you have to wake up at 5am.  Why?  Because if you sleep in until 8 or 9am, you might not have water for the day.

That’s right.  Everyday, the water only is available in the pipes for about 3 or 4 hours.  Then it runs out and you’re out of luck.  So what do people do?  They wake up very early in the morning and collect as much water into buckets, pales and bottles they can find.  It’s very common to see people outside at 5 or 6am filling up 15 – 25 of containers and bringing them inside for the day.

Every bathroom has a 50 gallon container of water in it for flushing toilets and bathing.  Every kitchen has lots of 5 gallon containers of water in it for cooking and every day those containers need to be refilled.

This is real-life in Zambia for just about everyone where we are staying.

This Christmas, thank God you have running water whenever you want it.  For most here, it’s just not an option.

In Christ,
Jason, Anna and Micah
